Emotional Regulation NIRS fNIRS - Influence of Dreams

Given that dreams play an important role in emotional regulation, the question has been raised as to whether increased dream recall could influence this process. To investigate this, 41 individuals aged between 18 and 35 years were recruited and participated in the cognitive emotion regulation task (CERT). These participants were divided into two groups. One group (experimental) completed a dream diary for 14 days to increase the frequency of dream recall; and the other (control) completed a sleep diary. After this period, the participants underwent CERT again. To assess emotion regulation in this task, the Self-Assessment Manikin (subjective measure), in addition to galvanic skin response, heart rate and functional near-infrared spectroscopy (FNIRS) were used. Participants also answered questionnaires to investigate sociodemographic, clinical, sleep, dream and emotion regulation data. This research is currently in the data analysis phase.
