What's New in EEG, fNIRS and Hyperscanning at SfN 2026?
Decolonial Neuroscience from Latin America — New Questions for a New World
Can neuroscience help us ask questions that science, politics, and religion have not yet explored together?
Scientists, policymakers, and religious thinkers can become trapped in local optima: established theories, institutional language, and beliefs that limit new perspectives.
As Society for Neuroscience (SfN 2026) approaches, BrainLatam and Brain Support invite researchers to explore decolonial neuroscience, social interaction, collective decision-making, and human cooperation through experimental research.
EEG, fNIRS/NIRS and Multimodal Hyperscanning
Brain Support proposes collaborative research using:
Brain Products LiveAmp EEG: mobile EEG, SpO₂, respiration, ECG, heart rate variability (HRV), and Sensor & Trigger Extension.
NIRx NIRSport2 fNIRS/NIRS: wearable functional near-infrared spectroscopy and multimodal EEG-fNIRS hyperscanning for up to 8 participants in the proposed configuration.
Artinis Brite Ultra MKIV fNIRS: large-group hyperscanning for up to 30 participants, integrating behavioral recordings and synchronized data.
Experiments could compare individual decisions, instructed coordination, reciprocal interactions, disagreement, and adaptation to unexpected information.
Inter-brain synchrony does not prove collective consciousness, freedom, or democratic legitimacy.
Our hypotheses must remain falsifiable and open to interdisciplinary investigation.
What experiments have we never attempted because we keep asking the same questions?

Socioeconomic Desigualdades afectam Brain Responses de bebês growing up en Alemania
The infant N2–P3a complex may refletir a capacidade atencional precoce and experiências de aprendizagem, highlighting the early emergence of riscos de desenvolvimento due to disparidades sociais. Attention to unexpected stimulus changes likely plays a papel crucial in early learning processes. Thus, programas de apoyo familiar should be implemented early, antes das possíveis manifestações de desvantagens no desenvolvimento. Current pesquisa indicates that políticas e intervenções precoces need fácil acesso to reach grupos diversos, aiming to reducir as desigualdades socioculturais, especialmente when several factors coinciden.
